Your friend is being bullied- How can you help?
If you have a friend that's being bullied, and you want to help but you don't know how, there are simple ways to stand up to bullies who aren't your own.
1) Try to always be behind or around your friend when the bully(ies) are around. They probably only want to mess with your friend, so they probably won't do anything to your friend when you're around. Sticking with your friend could also make him/her feel safe and strong.
2) Whenever your friend tells you about what is happening to them, try to encourage him/her to tell a teacher or a trustworthy adult. If an adult doesn't know, nothing is going to change.
3) If your friend doesn't know how to stop the bullying, there are a lot of things you could do to help him/her, like…..
a- Show or tell him/her about this site. It will help your friend feel less alone and will help him/her stand up to their bully.
b- Like I said before, make sure an adult knows. You could even tell your own parents and ask them to talk to your friend's parents or teacher. When your friend asks you why your parent told their parents, tell him/her that you were trying to help and that it was for their own good.
c- Show or tell him/her about an anti-bullying site. That will help your friend feel strong.
d- Go on You-Tube or Vimeo or Teacher-Tube or whatever you use and search for anti-bullying videos or videos about how to stand up to bullies. There are a ton, so watch a few, write the good ones down, and give the list to your friend. Be sure to include what site you used (You-Tube, Vimeo, etc., etc.) and what the video was called.
4) Even though these bullies aren't your own, you can still hit them with some awesome, strong comebacks. I put up some great ones (if I do say so myself) under the "How To Stand Up To Bullies" tab on this blog.
It would be great if you commented on this page to tell me how it helped your friend, and you, with their bully so that I can help even more kids! Thanks! 😀
