There are so many classic characters that we see as 'mean' but really are bullies. Here are a few, in no particular order:
- Lucy van Pelt from the Peanuts/ Charlie Brown
- Scut Farkus from A Christmas Story
- Moe from Calvin and Hobbes
- Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter (I almost wrote 'Happy Potter' ;) )
- Cinderella's step- sisters and mother-. (obviously from Cinderella)
- the Wolf who blew the piggies' houses down (in The Three Little Pigs)
- Regina George from Mean Girls (it's PG-13 so 5th grade down may not have seen it)
- Cato and Clove in the Hunger Games (PG-13 again)
- Agatha Trunchbull, the principal in Matilda
- all of the other reindeer from Rudolph
My dad asked me, "What do you want people to do with this list?" My answer: I want people to see how regular bullying is and how little we recognize it. Draco just seems like a mean peer, the Wolf a stereotypical wolf: mean and forceful. And also, bullies aren't always the jocks or the popular girls. The next list is each character from above and what social group they would fit in (at least the groups from middle school).
- Lucy; spoiled, full-of-themselves
- Scut; outsiders
- Moe; just plain bully
- Draco; the high and mighties
- Cinderella' stepfamily: the spoiled brats
- Wolf; outsiders
- Regina; popular girls
- Cato and Clove; spoiled high and mighties
- Agatha; outsiders
- reindeer; the spoiled brats
See how the groups differ? Stereotypical bullies come from two groups: jocks and popular. But in real life, they're from every social group you could think of!
